Wind crosses open fields with nothing to break it, and the properties that feel it most are the ones on the edge of town and out along the county roads. Roof edges, ridge lines and the windward elevation of the siding take the load.
The housing stock is older and well kept: solid, straightforward homes painted several times over, where the current problem is that the last coat went on over poor prep. The farmhouse in our gallery, taken from failing white paint down to bare wood and back up as a deep slate gray, is that job exactly.
Waupun also has more outbuildings per property than the lakeside towns do. Detached garages, sheds and barns are part of the estimate here far more often than they are in Neenah, and they matter for insurance claims too.
